Preparing for Martyn's Law (Protect Duty)
What the pending UK legislation means for publicly accessible locations, and how Rapport Security is aligning corporate compliance.
The Scope of Protect Duty
Martyn's Law seeks to ensure that certain publicly accessible venues take proportionate steps to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack. For facility managers and corporate landlords, this represents a significant shift from voluntary guidance to statutory duty.
Tiered Requirements
The legislation is expected to implement a tiered approach linked to the capacity of the venue. Standard tier venues (capacity 100-799) will be required to undertake basic, low-cost activities such as bespoke training and information sharing. Enhanced tier venues (capacity 800+) will require detailed risk assessments and stringent security plans.
